Who’s your local champion for 2025?
Looking back over the year, there’s a lot to chose from.
We finished with celebrating the Eco Hub Sidmouth @ the Champions Awards 2025 – which focussed on the incredible efforts of all the local groups and individuals involved in the inspiring Eco Hub Sidmouth project.
Several of those presented with a Champions Award 2025 have also been featured on these pages, including: Naked Larder: ‘the little refill revolution going in Sidmouth’ and the Sidmouth Sea Fest & Coastal Community Hub – Changemaker Champions.
Other festivals have been recognised over the last twelve months on the Champions Awards blog – such as the Sidmouth Folk Festival patron Martin Carthy, nominated for Mercury Prize and the Sidmouth Walking Festival. And generally, championing the Sidmouth festival scene shows the crucial role this plays in the life of the Sid Valley.
We also have to give congratulations to Sidmouth College for making the top 10 ranked schools in Devon; we should also congratulate the town council and the International School, when the new Youth Hub was launched by Y@S in the summer; and we need to be championing Devon’s Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.

We need to support our local businesses – a highlight of the year being Sidmouth businesswoman Sharon Clapp, running for Female Entrepreneur of the Year. And don’t forget to champion our young Devon farmers.
Let’s finish with our eco champions, from the Word Forest working in East Africa and Tipton St John, to the East Devon Countryside Team, finishing as we started with the Eco Hub Sidmouth, who have been running fabulous sessions throughout the year.
A good year, then, for local champions!
Who is yours?!
