Sharing Christmas cheer across the Sid Valley – and beyond

Last year, we were sharing Christmas cheer across the Sid Valley and beyond – and once again that is happening…

Here’s a very uplifting piece from local journalist Maria McCarthy in the Herald letting us know that Sidmouth is inviting residents to a Christmas Lunch this December:

The Sidmouth Community Christmas Lunch is inviting those who are alone this Christmas. Open to residents of Sidmouth, Sidford, and Sidbury, the annual event provides free food and company for those who would otherwise be isolated. The lunch involves a choice between vegetarian and traditional Christmas dinner, along with complimentary drinks, from 12.15pm until 3.30pm on December 25.

Other groups are doing their bit – and more. We learn that Sidmouth Rotary’s Christmas appeal has been given a significant boost, by the support of local schools and the community:

Numerous contributions of gifts and hamper items have been received for those in need this festive season... The student council at Sidmouth College, spearheaded by Olivia Sinclair, set up a donation tree in Sidmouth Library, garnering much interest and generosity from the community.

And we mustn’t forget a particularly vulnerable group – and their companions – as the Dogs Trust offers pet Christmas parcels to rough sleepers:

Gift parcels are being distributed to homeless dog owners throughout the South West this festive season. Every year, Dogs Trust delivers parcels filled with collars, leads, coats and treats to homelessness services across the UK, to share with owners and their four-legged companions. This Christmas, the charity’s Together Through Homelessness project aims to spread festive cheer, especially amidst rising support demands.
