The Ted Wragg Trust: championing East Devon schools

Two years ago, Sidmouth College became part of the Ted Wragg Trust ‘family’:

Sidmouth College has joined the Ted Wragg Multi-Academy Trust in what is being described as a ‘genuinely transformative partnership’.

The Trust comprises 14 schools in Devon and aims to ensure that each school within its ‘family’ has the highest expectation for every child, with social justice at the core. The Trust was set up in the memory of Professor Ted Wragg, a former Lecturer in Education at Exeter University. He was passionate about how education can transform young people’s futures, and became known as one of the foremost education thinkers of his generation.

Since then, there has been a lot of positive activity, including Sidmouth schoolchildren leaving their mark with stunning town centre artwork and Devon MP Richard Foord visiting Sidmouth College students.

In the autumn, East Devon schools were celebrated at the Ted Wragg Trust Awards.

And this week it has been announced that the Ted Wragg Trust has been shortlisted for two national awards, as reported in the Herald:

The trust, which runs 18 schools across Devon, is in the running for the special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) award at the MAT Excellence Awards.

The MAT Excellence Awards recognise the noteworthy achievements of schools, students, and staff within trusts across the UK and their positive influence on communities.

It is also a contender for the Best Practice in Inclusive Education Award at the Education Business Awards… backed by the Department for Education, they applaud the exceptional accomplishments and loyalty of schools and academies nationwide.

The Ted Wragg Trust places inclusivity at the heart of its educational approach, ensuring that children with SEND receive tailored support to help them thrive. The trust’s strategy is built around valuing all students, fostering emotional well-being, and equipping children with the skills needed to navigate education and life successfully. Staff are given access to high-quality continuous professional development to enhance their ability to support students effectively.
