Healthwatch: Devon’s health champions

When it comes to health champions in these parts, Sid Valley Help is very much up there, acting as go-to point for every type of health care, pointing to where best to go for help, from hospital visits to mental health advice. They are certainly valued – and received the Champions Awards 2021 in recognition of their work.

As for health and wellbeing in East Devon, the district council has a list of partners, providers and more information.

And for the county, the independent health champion for Devon is Healthwatch – and is there “to listen to your healthcare stories and also to offer advice or information”.

They have just released their annual report, “highlighting a year of impactful community engagement, meaningful partnerships, and people-driven improvements to local health and social care services”.

As said by Dr Kevin Dixon, Chair of Healthwatch in Devon, Plymouth and Torbay: “Our new Annual Report emphasises the power of co-design, collaborative working, and evidence-led advocacy to improve care. It shows the hard work and dedication of the Healthwatch volunteers and staff and why listening to patients is so important.”
