Sustainable Sidmouth Champions Awards 2023

The Champions Awards are back for a third year!

It was last October when the Sustainable Sidmouth Champions Awards 2021 were presented, celebrating the magnificent efforts by the Sid Valley community during a particularly challenging year.

Fundamentally, the Sustainable Sidmouth Champions Awards are all about recognising the amazing people, organisations and businesses who make a real difference to the Sid Valley.

This year, the Champions Awards 2022 have focussed online on the theme of “Education for sustainability, education for hope”, acknowledging the efforts of those involved in ‘education’ in its broadest sense – many of whom have been showcased in a series of weekly articles.

And on Saturday 5th November, the Vision Group for Sidmouth will be launching the Sustainable Sidmouth Champions Awards 2023.

The Champions Awards 2023 are about highlighting how we can ‘Make Do And Mend’ as a positive way to not only manage the current difficult times, but also to contribute positively to the future of the Sid Valley.

They are about inspiring us to save some money, in our families and communities – and to help ‘save the planet’ in whatever small, local ways we can – whether it’s growing our own veg , reusing/repairing/recycling stuff or cutting down on energy and waste.

Anyone will be able to enter themselves, their group or their company (or nominate others) as of Saturday 5th November – by going to the Champions Awards website: https://sidmouth-champions.vgsidmouth.co.uk/

The Awards will be open until the end of July 2023 to show what sort of impact the activity has made – to allow the project or exercise, from collecting data to planting food to saving costs, to take effect, show results and make a real difference.

As Ian Gregory, Chair of the Vision Group for Sidmouth, says, “I’m delighted that the Champions Awards 2023 are being launched with a focus on sustainability.

“The need to make do and mend, utilise our resources effectively and reduce food wastage and the like have never been more important. Highlighting these areas in the Awards scheme will help us all consider our use of the resources we have been given.”

“Do have a look at the website for ideas – and I hope you can feel inspired to enter or nominate for a Champions Award 2023!”
