Showcasing sustainable projects: Sidmouth SAVE Food Hub

Sustainability is at the heart of the SAVE Food Hub ethos:

The initiative is a result of a collaboration between SAVE food hub, Sidmouth Voluntary Services and supermarkets in the town including the Co-op and Waitrose and is part of a growing effort to reduce the 5 million tonnes of edible food currently being wasted in Britain each year. Fresh bread, fruit, vegetables and more will be on offer to anyone who can make use of them.

All items will be listed via the Olio sharing app – to download the app on your smartphone or to create an account on a desktop computer, go to: www.olioex.com

It’s very much working in Sidmouth:

East Devon residents receive 1000s of meals through food-share support

And it’s very much about making do with what we already have:

“Want to help reduce food waste? This is the place!”

SAVE food hub

As the Herald said in a piece looking at how to cut our living costs and help save the planet:

The SAVE food hub collects perfectly good, end-of-date produce from shops in east Devon and gives it out free at collection points in Seaton, Sidmouth, Axminster, Axmouth and Colyton. At most of the collection sites anyone can turn up and take what they want, but some use the Olio food sharing app in which people request particular items. For information on the locations and times of these drop-in sessions, visit the SAVE Food Hub website.
