The Devon County Show is kicking off from tomorrow. And on Friday, the Devon Federation of Young Farmers’ Clubs will be hosting their annual event:
Join us for this year’s Devon County Show YFC Agri Debate: “There is no incentive for the younger generation to get into farming.”
Friday 18th May – 10:30am
YFC Marquee (Avenue D)
Our agri debate sponsored by NFU Mutual will be chaired by Devon YFC President David Fursdon, with panelists Lizzie Chance, Jack Tucker, Harry Pinsent and Chloe Arscott. Find out more about our 4 panelists:
Lizzie Chance: Lizzie is an independent Chartered Surveyor and Land Agent providing a wide range of professional services to farmers and land owners across Devon and Cornwall.
Jack Tucker: 23-year-old Young Farmer from Whimple and Broadclyst. He runs his own company supplying rearing and reared calves to a growing customer base across the UK.
Harry Pinsent: Harry farms near Modbury, milking 330 spring block calving cows. Harry is currently a Director and Chairman of the South Hams Dairy Cooperative, as well as Chairman of the Totnes District of Arla Farmers.

With lots of opportunities for the audience to get involved, we can’t wait to welcome you in the YFC tent for this year’s debate!

The Sidmouth Herald looks at the Devon County Show and the Young farmers debate on the future of farming:
Devon YFC AGRI chair Chloe Arscott said: “I chose this subject because I think the amount of churn we’ve had in the industry with the changes post-budget has left the next generation feeling really uncertain.
“It is getting a lot harder as a younger person thinking about going into agriculture.
“There are so many more obstacles than there used to be, so I thought it would be interesting to see everyone else’s opinion on whether or not there is much of an incentive to go into farming.”
Pete Randerson, partner at the NFU Mutual Tiverton and South Molton Agency, said: “It is a challenging time for farmers, and we’re pleased to be able to support the activities of Devon YFC who provide so much support to their members, including having important conversations like this one.”
