Thank you volunteers – at the heart of the community

It’s clear we need volunteers! And lots of them! As it’s clear that with official services not always available, we have to rely on our own devices.

But whilst we always need more good folk to lend a helping hand and “we will need the engagement of volunteers more than ever” – the fantastic contribution of East Devon volunteers is quite something.

Whether it’s specific services such as the Sidmouth Voluntary Services based at Twyford House, offering a lunch club and transport, or the invaluable signposting Sid Valley Help which points to all sorts of groups looking for volunteer help – there are lots of opportunities.

Recently a correspondent got in touch with a fabulous set of photos of one group of volunteers out and about – as shown on Sidmouth Pictures | Sidmouth Parish Paths replacing steps on Sunday

On the VGS pages, there have been regular postings of the working parties – for example, the volunteers making up the FOGG working party…   And this week we have the Herald showcasing how the Sidmouth cemetery volunteers received their high-vis tabards.

All very impressive.

But perhaps most impressive is the idea from another correspondent, that much of this volunteering is actually ‘community activism’.
