How to save energy

How can we save energy at home, at work, at school and in the community?

There are the immediate things we can do – and the longer term. We look at both, picking out pieces from earlier postings.

WHAT WE CAN DO NOW TO SAVE ENERGY

Some tips from the Sidmouth Repair Café: a rolled-up carpet at the front door to stop the drafts; a simple cling-film framed ‘double glazing’ unit; a curtain over an entrance; a thick blanket actually fixed to an outer door; don’t overfill the kettle – just boil what you need… Facebook

There are in fact lots of websites out there making many more such immediate, practical solutions: 22 ways to help save the planet and reduce your energy bills – Mirror Online and More basic energy-saving tips – Vision Group for Sidmouth

Share the bills! Interestingly, one of the best things you can do if you have a spare room is to get a lodger. Plus: use heated throws and electric blankets – they cost just 1p per hour to run: Saving Energy at Home – Vision Group for Sidmouth

WHAT WE CAN DO LONGER TERM TO SAVE ENERGY

Whole streets can become ‘power stations’ – by creating community-owned solar farms on top of the streets’ roofs. And, yes, it’s really happening: A green project for Sidmouth? A POWER STATION ON YOUR STREET – Sustainable Sidmouth Champion Awards

The government is interested in ‘community energy’: The Voice of the Community Energy Sector | Community Energy England and Inspiring community energy projects at work – Vision Group for Sidmouth

“The high price of energy is nothing more than an accounting fiddle”: Facebook And, actually, there is an abundance of energy, as opposed to the current rigged energy market: We can have limitless cheap energy – Vision Group for Sidmouth

And much of it will be solar: solarpunk: 2023 is the year of the sun – Sidmouth Solarpunk
