What groups and organisations can do to SAVE MONEY SAVE THE PLANET
If you’re thinking of entering a community group you belong to or nominating an organisation for the Sustainable Sidmouth Awards 2023, there are lots of activities and projects you can do to ‘MAKE DO AND MEND’!

The Exmouth Library of Things is a great way to both save money and save resources:
This could include some garden chairs for a family party, or a long ladder to do some DIY, or tents and other items of camping equipment.
“We all have things in our garage we use very occasionally but which just take up space. The idea behind a Library of Things is that instead of us all having a drill, you could borrow one and then return it when you are finished using it.”

The Transition Town movement is at the forefront of efforts to create sustainable communities:
Transition Town Totnes is a community-led and run local charity that exists to strengthen the local economy, reduce our environmental impact, and build our resilience for a future with less cheap energy and a changing climate.
Our projects and groups are ever-changing and evolving, and we always welcome new ideas. Our work ranges from increasing low impact affordable housing, sharing skills,creating livelihoods,reducing energy costs and carbon emissions, growing our local food economy and working in partnership with other local projects.

Your club or group needn’t be all about ‘doing sustainable things’: rather, you and your fellow group-members might decide you’d like to do your bit to ‘save money and save the planet’:
- Do good while exercising by finding or setting up a GoodGym or Green Gym
- Promote healthy eating and foster a sense of community with shared meals that bring people together
- Support a fairer local economy by buying from independent retailers and fairly traded products. Set set up a buying group to bring costs down, to minimise waste.
- Create a community garden on unused land. Even the smallest gardens can be havens for wildlife. With top ten tips for helping nature in your community garden.
