Climate and culture champions

There are some fabulous ‘champions’ at work inspiring us with great projects.

These pages have recently looked at both East Devon’s climate champions and, more locally, the Eco Hub Sidmouth: climate champion.

There are also several champions working on both climate and culture in a dynamic and inspiring exchange.

Earlier this month, we took at look at  art celebrating personal, social and cultural identity – which focussed on the current projects at Sidmouth School Of Art

And last month, the River Sid website looked at outreach projects, where young people are engaging on what matters to them about the River Sid, involving the Sidmouth Youth Centre, the the River Sid Catchment Group and the School of Art.

An organisation which is very much bringing the arts and the environment together is Arts and Culture East Devon.

There are the ACED Champions, keen to ‘facilitate collaboration across their culture sector’.

Then there is the recent initiative whereby ‘Arts & Culture East Devon (ACED) and Exmouth Festival are setting out a new blueprint to decarbonise local festivals’ – or, as the District Council says, East Devon is set to become the home of green festivals.

And indeed, there has been further praise of these efforts in a VGS piece from the autumn, asking What’s the impact of Sidmouth’s festivals? Questions: from the Sidmouth Air Show to East Devon’s festivals.

To finish, as a demonstration of how art/culture can work with and express the issues around the environment/climate, here’s a photo on the ACED Sustainability Resources pages.

And, yes, it’s the Bicycle Ballet! Using culture and creativity to enhance, inspire and engage.

“The ‘Arts & Culture East Devon’ page looking at decarbonising events has illustrated what it’s all about with the Bicycle Ballet at last year’s Sea Fest on the Esplanade – brought to Sidmouth by the Sidmouth Cycling Campaign!”
