Champions in East Devon

This month, there have been several impressive awards presented in East Devon:

‘Ambitious’ plans to turn the Clyst Valley Regional Park into a wildlife haven, supporting an East Devon aim to be carbon neutral by 2040, have been nominated for a national award. East Devon District Council (EDDC) said it was ‘thrilled’ to announce the park’s 25-year masterplan had been shortlisted in the Excellence in Plan Making category in the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) Awards 2022.

Axminster Community Shed has received a major award for its ‘outstanding’ contribution to the local community. Formed only a matter of months ago, the Shed received the East Devon AONB’s coveted Acland Award at the organisations annual general meeting at Froginwell Vineyard at Woodbury Salterton.

Sidmouth has won several South West in Bloom Awards, adding to the town’s success in the national competition. Sidmouth in Bloom won a Gold award and… Secretary Peter Endersby also won a South West in Bloom Community Champion Award to add to his National Award in the same category.

A ’beautiful’ churchyard in East Devon described as ‘incredibly welcoming’ has won an award for being one of the best in the county. St John the Baptist Church in Hawkchurch, near Axminster, has been named best new entry in the 2022 awards to find Devon’s top churchyards. Devon CPRE Best Churchyard judges awarded a certificate to the Hawkchurch entry, calling it ‘the most welcoming of all the places they visited’ in Devon.
