This week is National Marine Week:

National Marine Week is our celebration of UK seas! From 26th July – 10th August 2025 we’ll be showcasing the ‘Secrets of our Seabeds’.Â
We have incredible seabeds off our coasts – from delicate cold-water corals to internationally important chalk reefs, to muds full of life! There are so many beautiful underwater worlds to discover.
As part of their push to champion or seas, the Wildlife Trusts are holding a consultation to look to Ban Bottom Trawling.
Meanwhile, the Devon Wildlife Trust Facebook page is full of ideas and events and interesting info – including a look at the tiny, beautiful and fascinating solar-powered sea slug, a reminder that every year, an estimated 8 million tonnes of litter enter the oceans and a video showing us the underwater meadows of seagrass.
All fascinating stuff!
Last month, the South West were championing our seas – when Cornish young fishermen took the global stage at the United Nations Ocean Conference in Nice.
And in these parts too, the seas are being championed – as later in the year as part of the Sid Vale Association events, on Tuesday 12th November, Ed Dolphin will be taking a look at Life between the tides and what lives on and around Chit Rocks.
All inspiring stuff!
