There is a very special place – right in the heart of Sidmouth.
As reported by the Herald last year on its third anniversary, the Oasis Café was set up during very difficult times:
Weekly ‘coffee and chat’ sessions began at the Dissenters Hall at the end of September 2020, for anyone who was feeling anxious, lonely and isolated. The initiative was started by Andie Milne, the former co-ordinator of Sid Valley Food Bank, who felt that people needed something to ‘nourish the spirits’ during the misery and stress of the pandemic. The sessions, held every Wednesday lunchtime, operated within the social distancing guidelines, offering a safe space with free hot drinks and friendly volunteers to talk to.

The café has developed into a community hub. The social sessions have continued, offering board games and crafts as well as friendly conversation, and light lunches are available as well as tea and coffee. The Oasis cafe is used by the Gateway homelessness support team to meet people needing advice…

This Saturday the Oasis will be relocating once again:
Sidmouth’s Oasis Café will be providing a tranquil space at this weekend’s Seafest, on Saturday, May 18. The cafe, usually based at Dissenters, offers a safe, friendly environment for anyone who feels they would like some company. At Seafest the team will be in a dedicated area of the Sensory Garden, offering the same service.
