Love Sidmouth: a message from Denise Bickley!

The Love Sidmouth project has had its Love Sidmouth soft launch!

See what it’s all about in the outline of Love Sidmouth.

Follow its progress on the Love Sidmouth 💚 | Facebook pages.

And look out in particular for the accounts of what’s going on with the pilot project on Tyrrell Mead – which meets every Sunday.

Here’s the post from project founder Denise Bickley at their first session on Sunday 8th March: Love Sidmouth 💚 | Well done Tyrrell Mead group – 5 turned out for our first meet up this afternoon, with 2 green bins loaned to us from other neighbours

With Denise’s piece as Sidmouth’s Devon County Councillor in the latest Herald: ‘Love Sidmouth’ plan hopes to revitalise the town by 2026:

The initiative, titled Love Sidmouth, aims to spruce up the town using volunteers and a new award system.

The scheme is being outlined by a variety of partners and organisations, including town councillors Denise Bickley and Stuart Hughes, various local voluntary groups and churches, as well as schools.

The proposal aims to tackle issues in the town, such as neglected shared spaces, uncared-for shops, and street weeds. Due to funding shortfalls, councils have been unable to address these “extras” for years. The new plan hopes to mitigate these issues without spending too much council tax money.

The scheme is open to individuals, businesses, and groups. Participants can apply to the Facebook group or through an online form. Participants start by submitting an application form and taking photos of their area before improvement.

They will also display “taking part” stickers to encourage community involvement. During and after photos are documented, and once the project is completed, participants should notify the organisers.

The project will conclude with an attendance at the VGS Awards Ceremony, where recognition of effort will be given.

Finally, here’s a message Denise has just sent out:

I just wanted to update that I have ‘soft launched’ Love Sidmouth, so if there is any way that you might be involved that would be fantastic, please do let me know. If you are able to help publicise it, that would be very helpful.

If you have any projects you can think of to enter as a group (or as individuals or streets) that would be awesome too – just remember to take pictures before, during and after, enter here: entry form for Love Sidmouth

Have fun!
